....In the February 23rd issue of CCJ... Taunton's noted Dessert Club performers visit CCJ in-studio Cranberry Country Journal continues to bring area musicians, authors and performers to the airwaves with live performances and interviews. This week, CCJ was delighted to have in our studios "down by the bog" two artists and alumn of the Dessert Club in Taunton: Poet/author Nancy Brady Cunningham and singer/songwriter/guitarist Mike Higgins. Published poet and author of five books, Nancy Brady Cunningham has been the featured poet at many Boston venues, and has performed her poetry at Boston's First Night 2000 in Big Night at the Bookhouse, held at the Boston Public Library. For Saturday's program, CCJ listeners got to hear the noted poet who graciously provided us with heartfelt readings of two of her outstanding selections. On the February 16th issue of Cranberry Country Journal, Ed Beaulieu and Dr. Len Anderson discussed their upcoming visit to Middleboro Town Hall. But as the pair informed listeners, it won't be to voice an opinion at an evening Selectmen's meeting. In fact, it won't be for any governmental purpose at all. During their nocturnal visit, Beaulieu and Dr. Anderson will enter the confines of the 1817 building to investigate ghosts and other paranormal activity that they say may be present in the Town Hall's second floor Grand Hall. As we learned during the Cranberry Country Journal broadcast, they have received the OK from Town Fathers to bring their photographic, as well as audio equipment, to determine if the sounds eminating from the second floor auditorium are indeed actual signs of paranormal activity. The Cranberry Country area's version of "Ghostbusters" also informed listeners of their paranormal findings at locations in Middleboro, Scotland, as well as in Virginia. ....In the February 9th issue of CCJ Cranberry Country Journal -- On The Road Live WVBF Broadcast from Somethin's Brewin Book Cafe in Lakeville Cranberry Country Journal's on-the-road live broadcast from the Somethin's Brewin Book Cafe was as successful as it was fun. We left our studios "down by the bog" and ventured to the intimate and warm confines of the area's most popular coffee shoppee where we set up our mobile radio equipment. After a few "testings 1-2-3" it was "Live from Lakeville - it's Cranberry Country Journal." Kristin Scott, co-proprietor of Somethin's Brewin Book Cafe discussed the Cafe's mission to have this community-oriented venue serve as a meeting and gathering spot for the community. (ED. NOTE. And for a great morning breakfast, too!) In the second segment, Jean A. Douillette, author of "Lakeville, Massachusetts Gravestone Inscriptions, 1711-2003" visited and informed listeners of her extensive compilation of the epitaphs compiled from Lakeville’s thirty-one known cemetaries – the result of her seven years of research. We also spent a moment talking with station owner Steve Callahan, GM Tony Lopes and the hosts from other WVBF programs who stopped by Somethin's Brewin Book Cafe for the live broadcast. ....In the February 2nd issue of CCJ --- Is your car running OK? -JANUARY: ....In the January 26th Issue of CCJ --- We saw the light!! We learned of New England’s various unique and historic lighthouses from in-studio guest Ed Beaulieu whose February 2 multimedia presentation "Sentinels of the Shores” – Lighthouses of New England & Beyond," took place before a SRO audience at the Middleborough Public Library. ....In the January 19th Issue of CCJ --- Get organized!! Karen Butler, Professional Organizer and founder and owner of Define and Design stopped by our WVBF Cranberry Country studios and provided us with insights and suggestions for clutter removal and control, space planning, information and paper management and "kid clutter." --- The sport of fencing comes to Middleboro Harry Shamir, noted fencing instructor spent some time informing us about the sport that will soon be offered - for the very first time in Middleboro - via the Old Colony YMCA. --- What's new at the Y And Frank McDonald, Exec. Dir. of the Old Colony YMCA Middleboro Branch called us on the Cranberry Country Community Action Line and told us of the upcoming YMCA February fundrasier - that sounds like a lot of fun - at LeBarron Hills in Lakeville. ....In the January 12th Issue of CCJ --- Local author interviewed Cathy Foster, local author of "Sharing My Secrets About the Angels in My Life" visited us at our WVBF studios. Cathy shared her personal stories and insights noted in her first book, and informed us about upcoming books she is working on. --- Meet the the new Director of the Middleboro COA And you had a chance to meet Andrea Priest, the new Director of the Middleboro Council on Aging (COA). We learned of the many - and varied - activities offered through the COA's Leonard Simmons Multi Service Center location. ....In the January 5th Issue of CCJ --- Volunteer for nationwide Bald Eagle count
Dr. Tom French, Mass Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, Asst. Director of Natural Heritage and Endangered Species spoke of the upcoming bald eagle count during which Cranberry Country volunteers will report sightings of our national symbol. In Cranberry Country, that means the Lake Assawompsett and Quiticas Pond areas.

Danielle Bowker, Director of the Middleboro Public Library informed us that in 2007, 500-600 visitors per day took in the services of the Library...laptops have been added to the already-in-place computers...the Storytelling festival for 2008 will be replaced with an exciting day and night "Cultural Festival."
--- Local man in the Navy Middleboro High School grad. Brain Fahey - who is serving his country in the United States Navy - joined us on the Cranberry Country Community Action line where listeners heard about his at sea duties as well as some of the countries he has visited while on board a Navy vessel.
-DECEMBER: Dec. 29 (Merry Christmas! We brought you a "best of CCJ") ....In the December 22nd Issue of CCJ --- A live, in-studio performance And it was delightful! Sure hope you didn't miss the a cappela, four-part harmonies of “Transfusion” - a womens' barbershop quartet who serenaded us with sensational seasonal songs in our Cranberry Country studios! Not only did we hear the unique bass (Sarah), lead (Maryanne), tenor (Sherry) and baritone (Debi), Christmas song stylings of these talented ladies, but we learned of how this Cranberry Country area quartet came about, heard about their performances at Disney World and the Pawtucket Red Sox – and found out how you too could become a member of a barber shop quartet! (ED. Note: You “ain’t heard nothin” till you hear their four-part harmony Christmas songs!)
--- If it’s Christmas, it’s the Festival of Lights at Edaville Railroad We chatted with co-owner Rob Jullian about the wonderful, family Christmastime tradition of “ridin the train” and viewing some of the over 7 million lights and displays at the popular Carver, MA park. (Did you know that Friday night fireworks – and of course a visit with Santa, himself – are also part of the Festival of Lights now going on at Edaville Railroad? If you haven't been - do so soon. January 1 is when this year's Festival of Lights will come to a close.)
--- Looking for volunteers Melissa Vanhorn, Community Impact Coordinator of the United Way of Greater Attleboro/Taunton (UWGAT) informed us of the need for volunteers to review funding proposals, discuss the value & impact of the program in the community, listen to presentations and make funding recommendations to their board.
