Two recent newspaper stories.... Cranberry Country Journal to air on WVBF 1530 AM
As seen in The Middleboro Gazette MIDDLEBORO - Cranberry Country Journal (CCJ) – the area’s long-running, popular cable TV show – will begin its new radio version Saturdays from 9 to 10 am beginning October 6 on WVBF, 1530 AM. Since its inception in 1993, CCJ has been hosted by Paul Lazarovich who will also host and produce the radio show, providing new community-focused programming and taking phone calls. “And like the cable show,“ says Lazarovich, “Cranberry Country Journal will continue in its mission to present “a slice of life of the people, places and activities that make the Cranberry Country area a special place to call home.’” Cranberry Country Journal’s radio version has already been introduced to listeners as 15-minute segments during the 9-11 am “Hometown Talk” program on WVBF AM. “We’ve had visits and interviews with Mary Barry of Mary Barry Massage, Rep. Steve Canessa, spokespersons for area festivals - the New England Bluegrass, Taunton River Folk and the Lakeville Music & Arts Festivals – Burkland School Principal Mr. Fred Morris, the president of the Taunton Area (ham) Radio Club, local actress Peg Holzemer, the Old Colony Y Exec. Director, and even royalty – his majesty King Richard from King Richard’s Faire paid a visit to our WVBF studios.” In keeping with Cranberry Country Journal’s community focus, Lazarovich is looking for residents to get involved with the program. CCJ would like to have representatives from area high schools to provide weekly updates, area residents to provide movie and theatre reviews, and will air public service announcements as well as birthdays and other notable events. “I’m inviting our neighbors to join me, Saturday mornings, 9 to 10 am on WVBF, 1530 AM, sit back with that cup of coffee and check out what’s going on in their community – on Cranberry Country Journal.” CCJ host and producer Paul Lazarovich brings his media experience as talk show producer for WMEX, Boston; newscaster WMSX; WATD FM election night Middleboro correspondent; Public Information Officer, Commonwealth of Mass. state agency; Communications Coordinator, Leading Edge Computers, writer producer and voiceovers for area radio and television commercials; narrator of a half-hour commercial documentary; Free Bird Times and Capeway News columnist. An Associate Professor at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Lazarovich teaches communication courses.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ...and from the December 6 Middleboro Gazette: December 06, 2007 11:10 AM MIDDLEBORO — Cranberry Country Journal — the area's first radio talk show — continues in its third month of providing topical and lively community-focused programming Saturday mornings from 9 to 10 on WVBF, 1530 AM.
According to the show's host Paul Lazarovich, "Each issue of the radio version of Cranberry Country Journal continues with our initial mission — and in the tradition of its long-running cable TV counterpart — to provide a 'slice of life' of the people, places and activities that make the Cranberry Country area a special place to call home."
In keeping with that promise, the fast paced Cranberry Country Journal radio program has already brought area listeners an impressive list of guests and topics that include: Talking baseball with Plymouth River Eels professional baseball team CEO, Tom O'Brien; a Thanksgiving themed program with Bridgewater turkey farmer Don Asack and Jennifer Monach of Plimoth Plantation; a special Halloween show with noted mentalist Rory Raven, as well as interviews with Frank McDonald, Executive Director of the Old Colony YMCA, Principal Fred Morris of the Burkland Elementary School, Dottie Thayer from the Middleboro Historical Museum and noted local actress — and recently seen in the Matt Damon/Jack Nicholson flick The Departed — Peg Holzemer
The Saturday 9-10 am program has also brought live music to the airwaves with in-studio performances by the Harper & the Minstrel and local musician Ray Moitoza.
The younger crowd also takes part in each week's show. Cranberry Country Journal's weekly "Word of the Week" segment has an area student call in with a word of his or her own choosing. The student then provides its definition and uses it in a sentence. As show host and producer Lazarovich explains, "It's a great way to get kids involved with the show. We've already had students from Carver, Middleboro and Taunton call in."
Cranberry Country Journal has also enlightened and informed WVBF listeners during its 9-10 am air time with knowledgeable guests such as Queen of Cuisine, Christine Henning; Joanne Byron, Massachusetts Chair of, 'A Salute to Reading is FUNdamental'; local Message Therapist Mary Barry, and memorabilia expert Mike Ventura of Collectable Corner. The show also brought listeners stay-in-shape tips with YMCA Fitness Director expert Nate Goldrick; a conversation with Director of the Middleboro Public Library Danielle Bowker, and a program with suggestions and insights into college funding with representatives from Education Funding Solutions.
"And Cranberry Country Journal will continue to provide area non profits and organizations involved in fund-raising and events with an opportunity to get their message heard," says Lazarovich. "We've already had on-air conversations with representatives from the New England Bluegrass Festival, the Taunton River Folk Festival, the Lakeville Music & Arts Festival, the Lakeville Area Mother's Club and the Christmas Wishes program."
An invitation is extended to neighbors from throughout the Cranberry Country area of Middleboro, Lakeville, Assonet, Berkley, Dighton, Rehoboth — and beyond — to join host Paul Lazarovich with "lively and topical programming that really matters" each and every Saturday morning from 9 to 10 on WVBF, 1530 AM.
